ROBERTSON COUNTY, Tenn. (WKRN) – A State trooper shot a man after a traffic accident along I-65 in Robertson County.

TBI investigators said the man pulled a gun on the trooper first.

The incident took place shortly after 5 p.m. Tuesday near exit 112 at Highway 25.

TBI spokesperson Susan Niland said the Trooper was conducting a traffic stop when he saw a car speeding up the exit ramp from the interstate. The car hit a tractor trailer, knocking it off the road. The car careened down an embankment.  The driver got out of the car. That’s when he allegedly took out his gun.

The trooper fired his weapon, wounding the man.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation identified the driver as Montreal Lamont Batey, 28.  A lifeflight helicopter took Batey to Vanderbilt Medical Center, where he’s being treated for a gunshot wound.

Investigators say they found a firearm near Batey’s car.

They have not identified the trooper involved.
