DECATUR COUNTY, Tenn. (WKRN) – A historic church was destroyed in a fire Sunday night in Decatur County.
The fire began just after Sunday services ended around 7:30 at Bear Creek Baptist Church in Parsons.
The church, which just celebrated its 175th anniversary last summer, was destroyed in the blaze.
Pastor Adam Wood told News 2 he was on his way home when he learned about the fire.
“I got a phone call at 7:33 p.m. from a church member that they’d heard on scanner that church was on fire. When I got back, the church was fully engulfed but it had spread to other areas. It just spread very very quickly,” said Wood.
Multiple fire departments from across the area responded to the church to help fight the blaze.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
