Clarksville crash victim revived by paramedics dies at Vanderbilt

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) – A man who was revived by paramedics after a crash in Clarksville Friday afternoon has since died from his injuries.

The accident happened at Fort Campbell Boulevard and Tiny Town Road around 5:15 p.m.

Clarksville police reported Austin McElwrath, 21, of Bumpus Mills, was stopped at a red light on Fort Campbell Boulevard when he was struck from behind.

McElwrath’s 2005 Suzuki Forenza was pushed into the intersection by the other car, according to police.

Clarksville police said McElwrath showed no signs of life at the scene but paramedics were able to revive him before he was airlifted to Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

He was pronounced dead at the hospital.

The other driver suffered serious injuries and was transported to Blanchfield Army Community Hospital.

That driver submitted a blood sample to be tested for alcohol or drugs, results of which are pending.

The investigation is ongoing. No additional information was released.
