The boy is accused of killing 84-year-old Teruko Shaw last December. Johnson County Sheriff Mike Reece said the child knew Shaw and they lived near each other. The boy has not been identified because he is a juvenile.

Reece said the boy has been extradited from another state and appeared in juvenile court on Friday morning.

First Judicial District Attorney General Tony Clark said trying the boy as a juvenile would require a mental evaluation from the Tennessee Department of Children’s Services. The final decision would be made by the judge.
