The call went out just after 8 p.m. near the intersection of Blackwood Drive and Bell Road, just south of Interstate 40.

According to Metro police, Justin Lawton was sitting in a car in a parking lot next to a white Toyota sedan, possibly a Corolla, when witnesses reported hearing gunshots.

The Toyota sped away and Lawton’s vehicle rolled through the parking lot and into the street, where it came to a stop.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

She said she stopped and went over to the car where she saw a man slumped over the steering wheel. The witness then called 911.

Police are working to identify the gunman and determine a motive.
