2 officers shot during traffic stop in Georgia

LAVONIA, Ga. (WSPA) – A suspect is in custody after two police officers were shot during a traffic stop in Lavonia, Georgia, Monday.

According to Lavonia Chief Bruce Carlisle, one officer was shot in the shoulder and the other was shot in the hand and leg.

The suspect, 22-year-old Khari Anthony Dashaun Gordon, was captured sometime after 11 pm, according to officials at the scene.

Gordon will be charged with two counts of Aggravated Assault on a Police Officer, two counts of Attempted Murder, and one count of Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony.

He was found in the woods about 2 miles from the scene of the shooting.

St. Mary’s Sacred Heart Hospital is on lockdown while police search for the suspect.

Gordon was out on bond for an attempted murder charge in Greenville County, according to court records. Gordon was also stopped in Greenville for driving without a license Friday, Dec. 9.

The officers were arresting the driver after pulling over a stolen car when the shooting happened.

Both officers were taken to a hospital for their injuries.

The FBI is assisting local authorities with the investigation.
