LEBANON, Tenn. (WKRN) – Lebanon’s new mayor vetoed a multi-million dollar project on his first day on the job.
Friday was Bernie Ash’s first day in office.
Within minutes of taking office, the new mayor vetoed a proposed $5 million park project.
“In my opinion, there was no discussion, no formal meetings to discuss the park or borrowing $5 million,” explained Mayor Ash. “I vetoed the resolution hoping to give us a little more time to get together and meet and have a work session to discuss what the park is going to look like, if we’re going to have a park, where that money is going to come from, and also how it’s going to be paid back.”
Ash told News 2 the land was donated and money had been set aside to build a road to the new park.
He says it’s possible Lebanon could build a smaller park on that land, which would leave funds left over to fix an existing park.
