NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) – People who live in Middle Tennessee are about to feel some of the coldest temperatures since March.
News 2 spoke with an energy expert to find out the biggest mistakes people make that drive up heating bills.
Layne Gebers helps people keep their energy bills down for a living as the owner of Dr. Energy Saver. He explained the number one problem he sees his customer make.
“They will actually get a little space heater or in the frog areas. They will literally put in another heating or cooling system to try and make up that area, but it really hasn’t cured the problem. It has done something about the symptom,” said Gebers.
He also said don’t make the mistake of ignoring your ABCs.
A stands for attic. Don’t let air escape your attic. You can use caulking and expandable foam to fill any spaces.
B is for basement. “Now we go into the basement crawl space and seal it as tight as we can,” said Gebers.
C is for conditioned space. These are the rooms you spend time in. Seal up any cracks in those areas, too.
Energy experts say you can save big by not letting cold air creep into your home.
