MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WKRN) – The Vanderbilt Commodores were no match for Middle Tennessee and Giddy Potts’ 27 points Thursday night in Murfreesboro.
It was the Blue Raiders’ second blowout of an SEC team in a week. Middle Tennessee embarrassed Ole Miss 77-62 last weekend in Oxford, Mississippi.
The Blue Raiders led by 8 at 31-23 at the half, but their smothering defense never allowed Vanderbilt to get back in the game.
The Commodores shot only 32 percent for the game and 26 percent from the 3-point range. Matthew Fisher-Davis paced Vandy with 13 points, while Jeff Roberson chipped in with 11 points and 8 rebounds.
Potts was more than a scorer for the Blue Raiders. He also dished out 9 assists and took care of the basketball. Middle finished the game with an astounding 6 turnovers.
Reggie Upshaw had 14 points for Middle Tennessee, and JaCorey Williams had a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds.
It’s the seventh win in a row for the 9-1 Blue Raiders, who could be knocking on the door of the top 25 next week.
Vanderbilt falls to 5-5.
