NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) –A man was arrested for theft after he ran away from the scene of an accident. In the process, police said the man also totaled three other cars that belonged to the same family.
The crash happened around 11 p.m. Tuesday on 18th Avenue North when a black Dodge Charger left the road. The Charger then hit a white car into an SUV, causing the SUV to hit a house.
“It sounded like a tractor-trailer had hit the house or an airplane crash,” said Ebonne Nwani-Sanders. “It was something indescribable. It was so loud and it was just this big thump, so I knew something had happened.”
The Charger then ran up a tree, flipped, and landed on top of a third vehicle parked at the home.
“We noticed both of our vehicles had been hit, our tree in the front yard had been hit and my sister-in-law’s car had also been hit. All three were totaled,” Nwani-Sanders said.
The family who lives at the house told Metro police they saw two men run from the scene of the crash.
“Today is my birthday. It is supposed to be a time of joy and celebration, but I am heartbroken. I had one more car payment, but these things are material, they can be replaced. I am just glad all of our lives were spared,” Nwani-Sanders said.
Metro police were eventually able catch up with the driver of the black Dodge Charger that crashed.
According to an affidavit, police found an identification card belonging to Daryl Cane inside the Charger at the scene of the crash. They also found a stolen handgun.
Police went to Cane’s residence where they found him asleep on a couch. The affidavit stated Cane was intoxicated and unable to answer any questions.
Cane was charged with theft.
