NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) – An East Nashville woman says she was at home with her young children when three gunmen busted through her apartment front door.

It happened last Monday at the Park at Five Points apartments on Litton Avenue.

Nika Walter says she was eating dinner with her children, aged 5, 3, and 5 months, when she heard a knock at the door.

“I couldn’t hear anything because the kids were being loud and the dog was barking,” Walter said. “So I opened it up slowly to look outside.”

That’s when three men busted through the front door. Each of them had a gun.

“I could only think ‘don’t hurt my kids,’” she said. “That was the only thing going through my head: my kids.”

Even in that moment of panic she asked the gunmen a question.

“I asked them if could I put my kids in a room or something so they don’t see what’s going on,” she said. “They didn’t care.”

The robbers took a laptop, diamond necklace, and her wallet. She called police and officers caught one of the accused gunmen.

Jeremy Ward, 24, is currently in jail for the crime. Police are still looking for two other suspects.

Walter says she won’t rest until police find them. She’s also looking for a new place to live with her boyfriend and their children.

A property manager with the Park at Five Points says she was unaware of the home invasion.
