SMITHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) – Three people, including a child, have died in a mobile home fire in DeKalb County.
According to WJLE Radio, the trailer caught on fire Sunday morning.
A neighbor reportedly tried to get people out of the trailer before it was full engulfed, but two people died at the scene.
A 4-year-old died at the hospital.
WJLE Radio said a firefighter did save a 2-year-old from the fire. He’s being treated at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
News 2 spoke with the grandmother of one of the victims on Monday. She said she had just spoken to her loved one on Sunday.
“I talked to him 10 minutes to one yesterday morning and he said they were at Walmart,” Linda Standridge said. “I told him I loved him and they said they loved me and we did get to tell each other we loved each other before it happened.”
Firefighters are still investigating how the fire started.
