Robertson County SRO charged with sexual battery by an authority figure

CROSS PLAINS, Tenn. (WKRN) – A school resource officer has been charged with sexual battery by an authority figure.

Charles Abernathy, who worked as an SRO for East Robertson High School, was arrested in Portland on Friday afternoon.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation started investigating him on Nov. 30.

During their investigation, they reportedly learned that Abernathy committed sexual battery of a minor victim while on-duty as a police officer and while serving as the victim’s school resource officer.

Officials say the alleged crime started in Aug.

Abernathy faces five counts of sexual battery by an authority figure. He was booked into the Robertson County Jail on a $200,000 bond.
