NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) – A man is facing numerous charges after threatening schoolchildren and a police officer with a screwdriver.
According to a Metro police affidavit, Howard Cheatham was arrested Wednesday when he threatened a group of kids at a bus stop.
One of the children reportedly dropped something when they all ran away and Cheatham picked it up.
Later in the day an officer spotted Cheatham walking and asked him why he had a screwdriver. Cheatham said the screwdriver was to kill the officer, the affidavit said.
The Metro police officer ordered the man to drop the screwdriver and Cheatham complied. That’s when he was arrested.
Cheatham is charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, theft, public intoxication and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon on an officer.
His bond was set at $23,500.
