Man arrested in La. for murdering parents, dissolving bodies in acid

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) – A 28-year-old man has been arrested after authorities say he gruesomely murdered his parents and attempted to dissolve their bodies in an acid-based solution at their Knoxville home.

Joel Michael Guy Jr. was arrested in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Tuesday.

According to the Knox County Sheriff’s Office, he is charged with two counts of first degree murder in the deaths of his parents – Joel and Lisa Guy.

Investigators said the crime scene at Golden View home was “horrific” and that it was a “very gruesome crime scene.”

Authorities said they believe the couple was murdered between Friday night and Saturday morning.

Investigators said they each had multiple stab wounds and had been dismembered. According to investigators, the 28-year-old also tried to dissolve his parent’s bodies in an acid-based solution. A HAZMAT team responded to remove the material.

Remains were disposed of in multiple rooms throughout the house. The chief medical examiner had to remove the remains from the scene for identification.

Detectives say Joel Guy Jr. arrived in Knox County last Wednesday to visit is parents.

A welfare check called in by Lisa Guy’s co-workers on Monday led to the discovery of “multiple, gruesome crime scenes,” according to the investigators.

Knox County detectives traveled to Baton Rouge to arrest Joel Guy Jr.

SWAT and Safe Streets team members assisted in the arrest, as did officers from the East Baton Rouge Parrish Police Office.

Police said he was trying to enter his vehicle at his apartment complex in Baton Rouge when he was arrested.

He is currently charged with being a fugitive from justice. Further charges are pending upon his extradition to Knox County.
