NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) – A man was shot twice during a robbery attempt south of downtown Nashville early Saturday morning.

The shooting occurred in the Tony Sudekum Apartments on University Court around 6 a.m.

Metro police told News 2 the man was shot twice, in the back and abdomen before he transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center in serious condition.

The victim was outside when three men approached him and attempted to rob him, according to Metro police.

A witness to the shooting told News 2 he assisted the victim before paramedics arrived.

“But I just did what I thought was right and went out there to try to assist him and help keep him alive. You know, apply pressure to his wounds on his leg and I know he had one on the side of his back,” said Darryl Winston, Sr.

“I offered him my hand and I put my hand on him and I told him to just be still and he was just laying there in pain, leg shaking and stuff so I grabbed his leg and just held the towel on his leg and stuff. Other than that, I did the best I could to assist him. That is all I can say.”

Metro police said detectives are investigating to determine if the shooting was drug related and mentioned the victim was not cooperating with the investigation.

No additional information or suspect information was immediately released.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 615-74-CRIME.
