NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) – A man recently added to the state’s Top 10 Most Wanted List for his alleged involvement in the death of a toddler has been captured.
The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) reported 28-year-old Demetrius Covington, AKA Demetrius Somerville, was found late Wednesday night at an apartment complex in Dayton, Ohio.
Investigators said Covington hasn’t been seen since Friday after calling the child’s mother at work to say the boy was injured. The mother came home and decided to take her son to the hospital. While en route, the child’s condition worsened and she called 911.
Authorities say the child was hospitalized in critical condition and had numerous injuries. He died Tuesday.
Covington, a known member of the Bloods street gang, is charged with first-degree murder.
He was taken into custody by members of the U.S. Marshals Service Fugitive Task Force and officers with the Dayton Police Department.
Covington will be held in the Montgomery County jail in Dayton, Ohio until he is extradited back to Tennessee.
