NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) – It’s been nine years since a Nashville man was killed, and his family continues to push for answers and hope for justice.
What happened at the old Bavaria Apartments, now named Mallard’s Landing, is a mystery.
The crime occurred in the summer of 2007. David Martin was outside his apartment with his roommates when a man approached them.
“A guy walked up to him and said, ‘Can I use your cell phone?’” explained JoAnne, David’s mother. “The guy came in and pushed in after him, and asked them for their money.”
The suspect then left, with David following soon after.
“It was like that guy was waiting on the landing for him, and he just shot him,” said JoAnne. She and her husband, Chris, soon received a call no parent ever wants to get.
“It was about 2 a.m., I think, when we got the call,” noted Chris.
David was only 26 at the time of his death. But to his mom and dad, he’ll always be that bright-eyed 12 year old in JoAnn’s class who they eventually adopted.
“JoAnne taught him. He came into her class [in] sixth grade,” said Chris.
His wife added, “He didn’t have a family. He was at the children’s home, and I just saw a lot of potential there.”
The adoption was cleared two years later, as David became a Martin.
His parents now hope the mystery surrounding his death can be solved.
“Somewhere there’s still a murderer that got away with it, and that’s offensive to me,” said JoAnne.
