NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) – A convicted felon was arrested after he allegedly tried to flee from a traffic stop of Interstate 440 early Thursday morning.
It happened near the West End exit around 2 a.m. when police pulled Dontarius Rippy over for speeding and having the wrong tags on his vehicle.
Metro police told News 2 Rippy took off as the officer was getting out of his patrol car and attempted to make a U-turn in the grass median.
He then got his vehicle stuck on a guardrail on the other side of the median.
Officers took Rippy, who police say is a convicted felon, into custody without incident.
Investigators found a firearm and marijuana inside the vehicle, according to police.
He is charged with possession or casual exchange, felon in possession of a handgun and evading arrest.
