SMYRNA, Tenn. (WKRN) – The man critically injured in an industrial accident at the Nissan plant in Smyrna late Wednesday morning has died from his injuries.
The accident happened around 10:55 a.m. at the facility located at 983 Nissan Drive.
Authorities said the man, who News 2 has learned has been identified as Dennis Pinkston, was airlifted to Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville.
Early Thursday morning, Nissan released a statement confirming his passing.
We can confirm that a Smyrna Vehicle Assembly Plant employee was involved in an incident yesterday and transported to the hospital where he passed away. Our thoughts and prayers are with the employee’s family during this difficult time. The safety and well-being of our team members continues to be Nissan’s top priority.”
Early Thursday morning, The Tennessee Occupational Safety and Health Administration (TOSHA) was notified the victim had died.
Investigators were on-site soon after to compile information to determine what circumstances led to the accident.
“The final report on this investigation will be available for review when it is completed within four to six weeks,” a TOSHA official told News 2.
TOSHA also said Nissan followed all requirements in reporting the incident and subsequent death.
