NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) – A man was arrested and charged with robbing a South Nashville taco truck at gunpoint Thursday night.
The El Antojito truck was parked at a gas station near Murfreesboro Road and Spence Lane when the crime took place around 9 p.m.
Metro police reported 32-year-old Romero Wright came up the back steps of the truck, showed the owner a silver handgun, and said, “Give me your food.”
“The guy tell me, ‘Open the door!’ and I can see the gun, so the guy tells me open the door. I tell him, ‘When you need food, go to the window not the door,’ but he told me open the door or ‘I am going to kill you,'” Luis Godoy told News 2.
According to an affidavit, the owner then told Wright to come in the truck and take money from the register.
That’s when the owner reportedly grabbed the gun from the suspect and fought over the weapon, according to police.
Wright then allegedly ran from the truck into the parking lot of a nearby Waffle House while the taco truck owner shot the gun into the ground, telling him to stop, according to arrest warrants.
Wright was taken into custody by police once officers arrived at the scene.
Authorities say a records check of the weapon revealed it was stolen from Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
Wright was booked into the Metro jail and charged with theft and aggravated robbery. His bond was set at $30,000.
Even though he was shaken up, it was back to work again on Friday, cooking up dishes and getting ready for lunchtime.
“One guy is not going to scare me from closing my business so I opened at 10:30 today,” Godoy told News 2.
