LA VERGNE, Tenn. (WKRN) – A memorial to Captain Jeff Kuss now stands by the Veterans Memorial in La Vergne.

The bench was a labor of love by people who look forward to seeing the Blue Angels fly overhead every year.

After the crash that claimed Capt. Kuss’ life last June, they felt like they needed to do something to honor him.

They quickly raised more than $1,600 for the bench and a bronze plaque.

“We didn’t personally know Capt. Kuss, but just our ties to the Blue Angels and our love for them and for our veterans, it hurt us, plus he’s such a young guy to lose his life so early,” said Debbie Heughan.

The bench will be officially dedicated near the veteran’s wall in La Vergne on Friday for Veterans Day.

Heughan hopes Kuss’ family will stop and see it some day and know how much the Blue Angels mean to their community.
