LA VERGNE, Tenn. (WKRN) – A student was detained Friday after a handgun was found in his backpack at La Vergne High School Friday afternoon.
James Evans, school spokesman for Rutherford County, said principal Dirk Ash notified parents of the situation.
According to a release, a school resource officer learned about the gun via a tip. The student was searched and immediately detained, according to a message sent to parents.
Evans said all students are safe and the investigation is continuing.
The student’s identity was not released.
