NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) – A man was shot late Friday morning during an attempted robbery at a Nashville market, just moments after he put his daughter inside his car.

Police told News 2 the victim walked out of Danny’s Market on County Hospital Road around 11 a.m. and put his 1-year-old child in the car when a silver SUV pulled up nearby.

A man from inside the SUV casually walked up the victim, and surveillance video shows the suspect appear to say something before firing his weapon.

The victim ran and tried to dodge the bullets but was ultimately hit once in the leg.

Metro police on the scene told News 2 he was found lying in the parking lot when they arrived. He was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.

The little girl inside the car was not injured. Her mother and grandmother were called to the scene and appeared to be visibly shaken.

An arrest has yet to be made but Metro police told News 2 the suspect fled in a silver SUV south on Panorama Road. The SUV was found a short time later on Briarwick Drive, not far from the shooting.

Police aren’t sure if the suspect is still in the area. He’s described as a black male wearing a dark shirt and dark pants.

According to Sgt. Cary Briley, the store does have surveillance video that is helping with the investigation.

Further details weren’t immediately known.
