CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) – A Clarksville mother says a man attempted to kidnap her toddler on Thursday.

Police say the incident happened just after 3:30 p.m. in the area of Tracy Lane and Pea Ridge Road.

The girl’s mother, Casey Roman told News 2 she was organizing things on her back porch while her 3-year-old daughter was playing in the yard.

That’s when, according to Roman, a man jumped her fence and ran toward her daughter. Roman said she grabbed a knife and chased the man away. Her daughter was unharmed.

“It [the knife] just happened to be sitting over there because I was moving stuff around and I just grabbed it and ran,” she recalled.

The mother talked to News 2 Friday and she said she is still shaken up by the incident and was ready to do whatever she needed to do to protect her daughter.

“Times have changed,” she said. “You used to be able to let your kids outside to play and not lock your doors, now you have to watch everything.”

The suspect fled in a four-door blue older model car, possibly a Chevrolet Caprice, with rust on the bottom of it.

He’s described as a Hispanic male or dark-skinned white male, wearing a black ball cap, white sweatshirt, and blue jeans.
