Sawed-off shotgun, smoke devices found in ‘suspicious’ bag in Centerville

CENTERVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) – Authorities in Hickman County are investigating after someone found a “supsicious” bag Tuesday afternoon in Centerville.

Police officers and agents with Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) were called to the Pine Tree Village Apartments after 3 p.m.

Someone who lived nearby alerted authorities after finding the bag.

Officials told News 2 at the scene they found a sawed-off shotgun and several smoke devices inside. None of them were explosive.

An investigation into who the bag belongs to is ongoing. There are no suspects at this time.

Local homes were evacuated as a precaution. Centerville Police Chief Shanon Irwin said, “As you can tell, how close we are to residence’s homes. It’s better to be safe than sorry.”
