Man pleads not guilty in Wilson County hit-and-run that killed Air Force vet

Donald Rogers

WILSON COUNTY, Tenn. (WKRN) – A man accused in a fatal hit-and-run accident in Wilson County appeared in court Monday where he pleaded not guilty.

Walter Girton is charged with leaving the scene of an accident involving death, among other charges.

The Tennessee Highway Patrol tracked Girton to a jail in Indiana and he was brought back to Wilson County to face the charges earlier this month.

He’s accused in the death of Donald Rogers on Interstate 40 near State Route 840 in February 2015. Rogers was an Air Force veteran and grandfather-of-two. His wife was also hurt in the crash.

“We just feel the whole justice process is extremely slow and now to find out Friday that these charges are so minimal – they seem to be minimal to us,” Rogers’ sister Donna said.

Girton is scheduled back in court later next month.
