CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) – A motorcyclist is in critical condition following a crash in Clarksville Sunday afternoon.

It happened Sunday around 2:42 p.m. on Warfield Boulevard, or Highway 374, near Raleigh Court.

According to witnesses, 25-year-old Lawrence McClung was travelling at a high rate of speed when he collided with a Saturn SL1. The impact of the collision was so severe that one of the wheels fell off the car.

McClung was transported by LifeFlight to Vanderbilt University Medical Center and is now in critical condition. The driver of the car, Wesley Cothern, 56, was treated at Tennova hospital and released. His passenger, 50-year-old Phyllis Fox, was taken to the same hospital, where she remains.

The westbound lanes of Warfield Boulevard were closed for about two hours but have since reopened.

Authorities say the crash was caused by reckless driving on the part of the motorcycle.
