NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) – A man is recovering after he stopped to help a person in what he thought was a broken down car Friday in north Nashville.

Police arrested Jeffrey Fitzgerald, 37, and charged him with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon for hitting the victim with his vehicle on Ninth Avenue North.

According to arrest records, the victim saw Fitzgerald next to his vehicle and stopped to ask if he was OK or needed help.

Police believe that is when Fitzgerald began yelling at the victim before a scuffle broke out between the two.

The victim was able to defend himself and walk away before Fitzgerald reportedly got into his vehicle and intentionally hit the victim, according to police.

Fitzgerald was booked into the Metro jail and his bond was set at $60,000.

No word on what, if any, injuries the victim may have suffered from the incident.
