NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) – Metro police broke ground on their new headquarters in south Nashville Thursday morning.

The new headquarters will be located on Murfreesboro Pike near Foster Avenue.

The space will hold administrative offices, as well as other investigative divisions in the three-story, 61,000-square-foot building.

The property will also house the Family Justice Center in a separate two-story 44,000-square-foot building.

Nashville Mayor Megan Barry said the new space will help revitalize the area.

“Murfreesboro corridor is a very active corridor,” the mayor said. “What we can do now is start to see some building that will come back and support the businesses but all you have to do is look around, we are standing in an empty parking lot that has been empty for a long time. Now we have an opportunity to turn it into a great facility.”

The project will cost $48 million and is expected to be complete in the spring of 2018.
