CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WKRN) – The Chattanooga Zoo announced on its Facebook page that its 3-year-old red panda has died.

According to the post, Maina was found unresponsive in the outdoor red panda exhibit on Saturday. Zoo officials said at that point she showed no signs of a heart beat or breathing.

Zoo employees said they were in shock to find Maina in that condition since she had not exhibited any unusual behavior that morning.

CPR attempts were unsuccessful. Her body has been taken to UT Veterinary College where they hope to determine her cause of death.

Mainia is the mother of three-month-old cubs. The zoo described her as energetic and loved meeting guest and snacking on grapes.
