MILLERSVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) – The driver of a tractor-trailer died early Wednesday morning after his truck caught fire on Interstate 65 in Millersville.

According to the Tennessee Highway Patrol, the accident happened around 4:45 a.m. Billy Dixon, 61, was traveling north of Long Hollow Pike when he rear-ended another truck that had pulled over to switch drivers.

The collision caused his cab to detach from the trailer and flip over. It then caught fire and Dixon was trapped inside.

Passersby stopped and broke glass windows in an attempt to help him, but flames began shooting from the cab.

First responders arrived soon after, but Dixon was killed. The driver and passenger in the other truck were not injured.

The fire was extinguished around 6 a.m.; however, the road was closed until 7 p.m.

A TDOT worker on the scene told News 2 the lanes in the area that burned will have to repaved.
