NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) – Bringing a baby into the world can be stressful—especially if happens on a busy interstate.

That’s what happened to a local couple Tuesday afternoon on Interstate 40.

The father called 911 and said his wife was about to have their baby.

Dad: Uh we’re giving birth. I think on the side of the freeway. Let me put this down real quick to get the umbilical cord.
Dispatcher: Has the baby been born?
Dad: Mom’s doing great, she’s just, I mean, she’s not actually in shock, but she’s shocked to have a baby in a car. I mean, we have two others so this isn’t our first rodeo.

Not only did the father deliver the baby, he also used his shoelace to tie the umbilical chord.

According to the fire department, both the baby and the mom are doing fine.
