All treats, no tricks: Tips for a safe Halloween

MECHANICSBURG, Pa. (WHTM) – Trick-or-treat time is around the corner. Ghost, superhero or scary monster, whatever your child wants to dress up as this year, we want to make sure your child stays safe.

Authorities say to discard your child’s treat if the candy is open or has any odd, protruding shapes.

As children wander the streets, encourage them to use sidewalks with flashlights or glow sticks and wear light colored clothing to stand out. Also, use the buddy system and travel in groups.

Finally, don’t let your child wear a mask that covers their ears or eyes in case a car is coming and tries honking to get their attention.
