System error leads to double authorizations for some paying Metro bills

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) – Payments to any Metro-Nashville government department made in a 24-hour period last week may have been authorized to customers’ accounts twice.

Metro Water Services said Tuesday the city government’s payment vendor, FIS, which processes credit and debit card transactions, experienced an error.

The period affected was 1 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 22 to 1 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 23.

People who made payments during that period might see duplicate authorizations on their accounts.

Metro Water says FIS has cancelled the duplicate payments and is working with individual customers and banking institutions to resolve any fees, such as overdraft fees, incurred as a result of the error.
