NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) – Metro police are on the lookout for a man and a woman who tricked a senior citizen into writing them a check for thousands of dollars.
The pair convinced the 91-year-old woman she owed them money for work they said they had done on her roof. However, police say they didn’t do any work for the victim.
News 2 spoke with the victim, Mary Ballinger, who said she is too trusting of people.
“Well, they said they did some work and I believed it,” she said. “I believe people. I don’t think people tell you lies, but they do.”
Armed with her check, the man and woman went to a Madison bank and cashed it for $2,800.
Ballinger said she now wants to warn other senior citizens and hopes they will be on-guard.
She also said the people who lied to her to get money are “not very nice people.”
“I would tell them they did me wrong and I won’t ever forget it,” Ballinger said.
Anyone with information on the crime is urged to call Crime Stoppers at 615-74-CRIME.
