KNOXVILLE (WATE) – Knoxville area leaders came together Friday night to dedicate a bridge in honor of teen hero Zaevion Dobson.

State Rep. Eddie Smith said he and local leaders, including former Rep. Joe Amrstrong, plan to name the bridge crossing Interstate 275 at Heiskell Avenue for Dobson.

The ceremony took place at the beginning of halftime during the Fulton-West high school football game.

Dobson’s mother Zenobia and brother Zack were presented with signs saying “Zaevion Dobson Memorial Bridge,” which will be placed on the Heiskell Avenue bridge.

The 16-year-old was gunned down last December while trying to protect two girls.

Two men, Richard Williams and Christopher Bassett, have been charged with murder and attempted murder.
