NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) – A sixth grade Metro teacher is facing charges after police say he brought a loaded gun on school property Friday.

At 10:30 a.m., staff members at John Early Middle School called police stating that a pistol was found inside a backpack behind the library counter.

The gun was loaded with six rounds.

Alex Nation, 35, said the pistol belonged to him, and he forgot it was in his backpack.

He was given a state misdemeanor citation charging him with carrying a gun on school grounds. The school has also placed Nation on administrative leave while it investigates.

No children were harmed or exposed to the pistol.
