Iconic Vanderbilt coaches mural getting new look

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — The images of former Vanderbilt University basketball coaches Kevin Stallings and Melanie Balcomb are gone.

Muralist Michael Cooper is prepping the wall to paint the new basketball coaches hired last spring, Bryce Drew and Stephanie White.

This hasn’t been without controversy. The wall is iconic, with the first coaches painted back in the nineties, and it’s been updated over the years.

But just a couple weeks ago News 2 reported on rumblings that University of Tennessee fans were interested in paying the muralist to make the wall a tribute to the volunteers.

As soon as Vanderbilt alumni heard about that, they raised enough money to update the mural.

Vanderbilt Athletics has nothing to do with mural, so it’s always been up to fans and supporters of the school to find the funds.
