NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) – A man accused of running over a 2-year-old in north Nashville appeared in court Tuesday where he entered an open plea.

That means Steve Works admitted he is guilty of vehicular assault and possession of a controlled substance.

Witnesses said he was parked on Meade Avenue earlier this month, sleeping in his SUV in the middle of the street before he suddenly woke up, accelerated and drove into the little boy’s front yard where he was riding his bicycle.

The toddler was taken to the hospital and is now recovering at home.

Now the court is waiting for the results of Works blood work, which could take about six weeks.

After that, he will be sentenced.
