NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — The Titans were only seconds away from being tied for first in the AFC South but the Texans pulled off an improbable comeback to beat the Colts Sunday night.
The Texans lead the division at 4-2, Titans are 3-3, Jags 2-3 and Colts 2-4.
The popular narrative is the AFC South is the worst division in the NFL.
There’s no question it certainly has been the last few years, but is that just an assumption right now?
It might be.
The AFC South has combined for 11 wins this season and there are actually three other divisions with fewer wins:
- NFC West 10 (Pending AZ/NYJ tonight)
- AFC North 9
- NFC South 9
One response I’ve already received is the Texans are “carrying” the division. That’s not the reality either though.
The Texans, Titans and Colts all have two wins outside of the division.
The Jags, Colts and Texans have all beaten the Bears though, so if Chicago turns out to be the worst team in the NFL this year that is certainly a hit to the credibility of those wins.
One stat against the AFC South: All four teams are in the negative in point differential.
There’s a long way to go in the season and probably an even longer way for the AFC South to go to earn some respect.
That’s a problem it’s earned.
