NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) – Police said a woman was killed in a crash after she reportedly fled the scene of an unrelated accident at a south Nashville apartment complex.
It happened just before noon Monday at Northcrest and Leeanne drives.
Metro police told News 2 the woman, identified as 39-year-old Maha Ahmed, came down a hill too quickly after the accident at the apartment complex. She reportedly failed to negotiate a turn, which caused her vehicle to roll before hitting a tree and landing right side up.
“It had just happened. To my knowledge, the police had not even been notified of the hit and run accident. She had just fled from the other driver,” said Lt. Michael Gilliland about the initial crash.
Police said alcohol or drugs do not appear to be a factor in the accident.
Ahmed, according to police, was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
“I heard screeching tires and they were loud enough that I thought it was going to be a pretty good car wreck,” Jennifer Marks, who witnessed the crash, told News 2. “I looked up and saw a vehicle coming down the hill on the other side of the bushes and hit a tree, spun around, rolled and wound up in the backyard across the street.”
