Driver sets fire to stolen SUV after fleeing traffic stop

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) – Metro police are searching for a suspect after he allegedly set fire to a stolen SUV near Sylvan Park after he fled from a traffic stop early Thursday morning.

Metro police told News 2 officers attempted to pull over the SUV after the driver ran a red light at Bowling Avenue and West End Avenue around 2:40 a.m.

The driver allegedly sped away from the officer, who began searching for the SUV after losing track of it.

Police soon found the SUV on fire on Mockingbird Road near Lauderdale Road.

The Nashville Fire Department was called to the scene to extinguish the SUV.

Metro police said the SUV was reported stolen from Ohio on Oct. 10.

Authorities believe the driver deliberately set the SUV on fire, along with personal items, including a backpack and shoes, in a garbage can next to the SUV.

The suspect is still on the loose. No suspect description was immediately released.
