MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WKRN)- A $5,000 reward is being offered for information in the theft of 15 firearms from a Murfreesboro pawn shop.
TC’s Pawn and Loan, a federal firearm licensee, was burglarized on Oct. 6 by two suspects.
The suspects are seen on surveillance video walking around to the front door, and then one of the them uses a tire iron to break the glass on the front door. The shattered glass rains down on one of the suspect’s backs as he enters.
The men run over to the display case, also shattering the glass, and start loading handguns into two backpacks.
Store employees told News 2 they believe the two suspects may have been in the store prior to case the place; they went directly for the gun case.
“They knew what they were looking for, they where to find it, and they were aware of some of the security features inside the store,” said Murfreesboro police Sgt. Kyle Evans.
Evans told News 2 officers are concerned where the guns will end up.
“There are two people involved in this, so they are going to talk,” Evans said. “Any time you steal 15 guns and a large amount of ammunition, word is going to get out as to who that is.”
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) along with the Murfreesboro Police Department and National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF), the trade association for the firearms industry, are partnering to sponsor the reward.
The ATF is offering the reward in the amount of up to $2,500, which will be matched by the NSSF for a total reward of up to $5,000. The pawn shop owner is also offering a $1,000 reward.
This reward is part of a larger national cooperative initiative between the NSSF and ATF in which NSSF matches ATF’s reward in cases involving the theft of firearms from federally licensed firearms retailers.
