KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) – Defensive lineman Danny O’Brien has been dismissed from the University of Tennessee football team.

In a statement sent Monday, UT athletics officials say his dismissal is due violation of team rules. The exact circumstances were not known.

UT said it is unrelated to O’Brien’s injury against Texas A&M this past weekend, but should he require additional care, it would be provided by UT.

The Michigan native has already been removed from the team’s roster online. Further details have not been released.

O’Brien joined the Vols as a redshirt freshman in 2012 before playing in the next four seasons, including this year’s.

WATE reports O’Brien was suspended for two games last season for violating team rules and policies.
