COLLEGE GROVE, Tenn. (WKRN) – A 47-year-old man was killed in a fire early Monday morning in Williamson County.

The fire started just after Midnight at a home on Patterson Road in College Grove, about four miles from Arrington Vineyards.

Mark Berry was died in the fire. He was staying with his brother, John Berry, for the night because he and his wife got into an argument.

John Berry told News 2 he believes his brother fell asleep smoking a cigarette.

“My dog woke me up and smoke was so thick that I thought he was cooking something in the oven so I went back there to wake him up and the bed was on fire,” said John Berry.

He said he woke his brother up and threw the mattress outside but Mark went back in to get his phone, and never came back.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
