MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WKRN) – Students at Blackman Elementary in Murfreesboro helped collect nearly 1,800 non-perishable food items for News 2’s “Food 2 Families” program.

“It’s important for us to do the annual food drive every year with Second Harvest and News 2 because it helps teach the character trait of citizenship, and so, when we do this food drive it gets the students to think about those who are in need and what we can do to help them out,” explained school counselor Matt Russell.

Schools participating in the program compete for cash prizes from Kroger and Cornerstone Financial.
