FRANKLIN, Tenn. (WKRN) – A Crime Stoppers tip led to the identification of a man accused of robbing a Franklin bank at gunpoint in December 2015.

Franklin police reported Mark Smith was indicted by a federal grand jury Thursday  for robbing the SunTrust Bank, located at 1109 Murfreesboro Road on the morning of Dec. 30.

Smith allegedly entered the bank at 9:09 a.m. while wearing a mask, approached a teller with a gun and demanded money.

Franklin police said the arrest of Smith would have been unlikely without an anonymous tip the Williamson County Crime Stoppers.

Smith is currently in police custody in Birmingham, Alabama on charges of robbing a pharmacy.
