WILSON COUNTY, Tenn. (WKRN) – A car burglary suspect was arrested after police say he tried to sell a stolen item to one of his victims.
Dylan Barratt, 29, of Lebanon, has been charged with theft of property at the scene.
According to a press release, officers received several reports of car burglaries in the northern part of Wilson County over the weekend.
Authorities say they got a break in the case when one of the victims called police, saying a man was at his business trying to sell his own ammo back to him.
Barratt reportedly told him he had a trunk full of items to sell. Detectives say when they arrived to the scene, they found several stolen items from over the weekend, including two firearms, a crossbow, and ammunition.
Barrat was arrested and booked into the Wilson County Sheriff’s Office jail.
“This arrest could not have gone better if we had planned it,” Sheriff Robert Bryan said. “It’s not often someone steals items and attempts to sell them back to a victim. It doesn’t happen often this way but, we’re pleased our victim was paying attention and called immediately to help solve his case as well as that of many of his neighbors.”
