SPRING HILL, Tenn. (WKRN) – An 11-year-old boy who was severely injured after falling into a fire pit nearly seven years ago has undergone a triple organ transplant.

After years of waiting, Dylan Trevino’s family received word overnight that their son was a match for the multi-organ transplant.

Dylan received a new liver, pancreas and small and large intestines during the 18-hour surgery at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Wednesday. Doctors also removed his spleen.

His family told News 2 the donor was an exact blood and size match for their son.

Dylan suffered burns over half of his body, damaging vital organs, after he fell into a fire pit after a Christmas party in 2009.

Friends, family and co-workers in Spring Hill are planning a blood drive in his honor in the near future.

Dylan could be in the hospital for up to a year recovering. For now, they plan to keep him under for the next 48 hours while his body adjusts and rests.
